OAC Benefits
- Eliminates paperwork
- Organizes backchecks
- Improves communication
Whether your team has been using FinishLine Software for a few months or a few years, it’s worthwhile to review collaboration with subcontractors to facilitate a smoother punch list and closeout process. While many FinishLine license holders have subcontractors turn in check-marked paper lists generated from FinishLine reports, communication and documentation is further improved when subcontractors are actively involved in using FinishLine to report on their assigned tasks.
Here’s how the owner-architect-contractor (OAC) team benefits:1. Eliminates carrying around subcontractor-submitted paperwork and deciphering hand-written notes, or worse yet, lost paperwork.
2. Inspectors can better organize backchecks by using the FinishLine Pro App’s powerful filters to locate and sign-off pending items.
3. Phone calls, text messages and emails are nearly eliminated because the sub can communicate directly through the app by adding comments and photo documentation.
The benefit that’s hard to see is for the subcontractor. The last thing your sub wants to hear is that they’ll be required to learn a software program. One project engineer using FinishLine explained that when the project subcontractors were told they would be required to use FinishLine, the team was met with moans and groans. However, once the subs were shown how simple FinishLine was to use, and they used it for a couple of weeks, they embraced it.
Here’s how subcontractors benefit:1. It’s easy for them to see what items they are responsible for by logging into the app, and there’s no need to carry around printed lists.
2. Subcontractors can add comments and document their completed work with photos. No more waiting on returned calls and messages.
3. Subcontractors have more control over proving they completed their work. They’re not relying on someone else with their paper lists to close out assigned issues.
With FinishLine, subcontractor participation is not an "all or nothing" proposition. On some projects it may not be reasonable to expect all subs to use technology. In these cases, allow tech resistant subcontractors to use paper reports, and continue to promote FinishLine to your other subs. With good subcontractor participation, it’s a win for the OAC group, a win for the subcontractors, and a win for the project.
